Experimental effects of Cheongshinyangyoung-Tang on the regional cerebral blood flow and mean arterial blood pressure in normal rats

Cheongshinyangyoung-Tang(CYT) has been used in oriental medicine for many centuries as therapeutic agent for cerebral disease. The effects of CYT on the vascular system is not known. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of CYT on the regional cerebral blood flow(rCBF), mean arterial blood pressure(MABP) in normal rats. The results of this study were as follows ; 1. CYT increased MABP and rCBF in normal rats. Especially it signific- antly increased rCBF in a dose-dependent manner. 2. To prescribe CYT after pretreatment with indomethacin(IDN) decreased MABP and rCBF as compared with control group to administered only CYT in normal rats. Especially it significantly decreased rCBF. 3. To prescribe CYT after pretreatment with methylene blue(MTB) decre- ased rCBF as compared with control group to administered only CYT in normal rats, but it preferably increased MABP in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that CYT increase rCBF by enlargement diameter of pial artery in brain. The active mechanism of CYT is related with prostaglandin activated by cyclooxygenase. So, I think CYT is usefully applied to ischemic cerebral disease.
