Effect of salviae miltiorrhizae radix, rhei rhizoma and carthami flos combined Samgijiwhang-Tang on diabetic nephropathy rats induced by streptozotocin

This study was carried out to investigate the preventive effect of Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix, Rhei Rhizoma and Carthami Flos combined Samgijiwhang-Tang(SJTSRC) on streptozotocin(STZ)-induced diabetic nephropathy. The experimental animals were divided into three groups. One is a normal group. Another is a control group of rats with STZ-induced diabetic nephropathy. The other is a sample group applied SJTSRC. In this experimentation, we induced diabetic nephropathy by using STZ(60㎎/㎏) to rats via the peritoneum and confirmed the effect of diabetic nephropathy by SJTSRC administration as measures a serum creatinine and a serum BUN, secretion content of albumin and glucose content of urine, malondialdehyde(MDA) and glutathione(GSH) content in cortex of kidney. When we injected STZ into sample rats, the value of creatinine and BUN increased validly and STZ did damage to a kidney. In case of applying SJTSRC to sample rats, the value of serum creatinine decreased validly but the value of serum BUN decreased invalidly. We confirmed that SJTSRC has an effect to recover kidney damage and secretion content of albumin was increased by STZ decreases validly by SJTSRC but glucose content of urine made no valid change in compared with control group. Decrease of secretion content of albumin means that progressing of diabetic nephropathy recovers by STZ administration and we can suppose that kidney ability is not by decreasing of blood sugar but is by other factor. In conclusion, we could confirm that diabetic nephropathy was induced by STZ and SJTSRC has an effect to restricts the damage of kidney organization and the progressing into diabetic nephropathy as resists validly an increase of serum creatinine and secretion content of albumin. But we need more study continuously about an anti-oxidative effect of the kidney cortex.
