ABSTRACT Effects of a 12 weeks of Walking Exercise Training on body composition, blood lipids, Oxidative Stress and insulin resistance of Obese College female Students Hyun-Joo Ahn Major in Physical Education Graduate School Dong Shin University Advised by prof. Sung-pil Jeong, Ph. D. The study was designed to examine the effects of a 12 weeks of walking exercise training on body composition, blood lipids, oxidative stress and insulin resistance of obese college female students. Twenty obese college female students were volunteered to participate in this study as subjects, and they were randomly assigned to either walking exercise training group(n=10) or control group(n=10). The subjects in walking exercise training for 40min/session, four times per week for 12 weeks, whereas subjects in control were asked to maintain their normal life pattern for the same intervention period. Data were compared between pre- and post-test as well as between walking exercise training group and control group utilizing two-way ANOVA with repeated measures. Main results of the present study were as follows: 1) Weight, BMI and % body fat were significantly decreased in walking exercise training group, whereas there were no significant changes in the variables in control group. 2) High density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) was significantly increased in walking exercise training group, whereas there were no significant changes in the variables in control group. 3) The concentration of MDA significantly decreased in exercise training group, whereas there were no significant changes in the variables in control group. 4) Insulin and insulin resistance were significantly decreased in walking exercise training group. but Insulin and insulin resistance were significantly increased in control group. It was concluded that the 12 weeks of walking exercise training would be beneficial for body composition, blood lipid, oxidative stress and insulin resistance of obese college female students.
